It’s been a mostly quiet week on the market front with most news coverage circling around the Canadian wildfire smoke making its way down the East Coast. Thankfully we’re now through the worst of it. Here are some pictures from our building courtesy of our friend Brian Cootauco!
One important piece of news came in the form of the Jobless Claims data. We saw a higher than expected reading for the week ending June 3rd. The actual reading came in at a total of 261,000, which was 28,000 above the anticipated number. That increase represents the highest weekly rate since Oct 30th, 2021, a potential sign that the labor market is softening up after a year of interest rate hikes. Although one week’s worth of data is not enough to indicate the economy’s direction, it’s certainly important to watch the ongoing trend.
